Sound video feedback and learner response

Feedback from teacher: WWW : Audio 'it is not unusual' really matches visuals. Effective use of two dance clips to compare them. Contrapuntal - very contrasting (too much?) EBI : Ends too abruptly - smoother ending (fade to black). Balance both clips (timing) GRADE - C+ Feedback from fellow students: WWW :  The music was parallel. Good use of parallel and contrapuntal sound (good use of clips). The pace at the start was going exactly with the music. She went for two types of time periods of genre. Parallel sound at the beginning was presented very well. Good choice of music for the contrapuntal sound. Good parallel music as it looks as if its part of the real footage. Good use of parallel sound with clips. Good use on contrapuntal sound. Good use of clips to show parallel and contrapuntal sound. Sound track seemed as if it was inspired by the video. done parallel and contrapuntal  Good use of contrapuntal and parallel sounds. EBI : The edi

Media Awards

1) W rite mini-reviews of your THREE favourite films ; My first favourite video was the 'Earthquake' music video made by a GCSE media student. The reason why this was one of my favourite videos is because the cinematography was very well filmed; there were different camera angles from high to lot shots, and from zoomed in to distant shots which gave the video a professional effect and gave the impression that the camera person is very well trained with the camera. Aspects of mis-en-scene were also included such as costumes where the actor was dressed appropriate to suit the genre of the music video. Another aspect is setting ; the video was shot in a playground/basketball court which was appropriate because the music is about an earthquake. The editing was the best part of this video because it really convey the narrative of the sound which was about an earthquake; the video was edited to shake and create an earthquake effect when the beat was harsh which really g

Sound video

Image
This video includes contrapuntal and parallel sound where both the clips are choreography. The first clip is parallel and is from the TV programme 'Fresh Prince of Bel-air' where Carlton is dancing to an upbeat song (unusual - Tom Jones) which I edited over the clip. The second clip is from Chris Browns music video where I edited over the song Mad World by Gary Jules, which makes it contrapuntal as it isn't the music you would expect to go with this type of dance video.

Sound analysis

Image
Funny Games (2001) directed by Michael Haneke. What is the director saying about the family from the choice of music played? At the beginning of the clip, classical music was being played, which could suggest that the family are very calm and collected. However, as the clip progresses, the music alternates to hard-rock/punk music which could suggest that as the movie goes on, the family become more aggravated and impatient. The use of punk music could also portray the crazy nature of the family and shows that they are not your normal family. How would you describe this use of music? The fist half of the clip, I would describe the classical music as very peaceful. In the second half I would describe the music as very loud and aggressive. How do you think the narrative might develop? In the clip, I think the family are going on a little road trip to somewhere where there is a lake, hence the canoe

Film noir research

Image
What is Film Noir? Film noir is a term used to describe Hollywood crime dramas. Hollywood's classical film noir period is generally regarded as early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key, black-and-white visual style. The literal meaning of 'Film Noir' is 'Black Film' which means that the movies were primarily black and white where lighting was to create effects and meaning for the audience. How can Film noir be identified in films? Throughout films that have aspects of film noir, low-key lighting is used for majority of the cuts, creating shadows and distinct lighting. Film Noir  Characteristics Urban environment Rain-soaked streets Seedy taverns, diners, and run-down buildings Claustrophobic interiors Flickering street lamps Neon signs Scenes appear dark, as if lit for night, with many dark shadows Oblique and vertical lines, especially in regards to lighting Shadows Films done in b

Lighting: still image analysis

Image
This image mainly consists of low-key lighting as the picture is made up of a contrast between shadow and light. Top lighting is used in this image because the light is coming from the top of the picture which makes the character appear more glamourous and extenuates the woman's feminine features. The use of low-key and top lighting makes the picture seem more mysterious as some parts of the image is hidden in the dark and some parts of the image have light directly on them to draw more attention it, such as the smoke. As only one side of her face is lit, this could mean that the woman has a split character in which one side is bad. this image is also mainly made up of low-key lighting, due to half of the image being in the dark with very little light. Top lighting is used as you can clearly see that light is being directed towards her face from the top left corner of the image. The use of this lighting, similarly to the one above, makes the

Film & TV Language: Poster Analysis

Image
From this poster, it seems this movie is a sci-fi/action film as there are two space ship like objects which could suggest that throughout the movie, the characters will have to defeat the aliens and save the world. The who characters on the cover seem to be the protagonists, who are the ones defeating the aliens. As the two protagonists are of opposite gender, it could suggest that they may fall in love during the movie which depicts a sub-genre of romance. Considering the genre and plot of the movie, I think it would be targeted at people aged 16 and over because being a sci-fi/action, it probably would contain the use of guns and violence, which isn't very appropriate for children of young age. The second movie seems to be a horror/comedy. I can tell because firstly the film is called 'Scary Movie' and one of the characters on the poster looks possessed. The reason why this movie is also a comedy because on the top of the poster, the text reads 'abso

Star persona video feedback and LR

Feedback given by me   Shivani : WWW- The video was filmed very well, and the person doing the makeup ensured that their hand didn't get in the way on the face whilst doing the makeup. The music also fit very well with the theme of the video. EBI- Filming the video landscape would have allowed us to view the video larger and having a plain white while as a background to remove any distractions. Shareen : WWW- The video was well filmed, and there was a good use of lighting which allowed me to see the makeup and the transformation really clearly. EBI- The music didn't really fit the theme of the transformation very well and the next time to improve, they can ensure the camera zooms in and out more smoothly.  Tiago : WWW- The music fit the theme of the video very well, and good use of text at the beginning of the video. The setting was a white wall which allows the audience to concentrate on the makeup and not the background. EBI- Similar to Shareens feedback, try

Star Persona Transformation

Star persona mood board: For my mood board, I decided to put together similar images relating to zombie makeup transformations. These images really inspired my transformation on my friend, as they were a reference as to what my mis-en-scene video should look like.
