Sound video feedback and learner response






Feedback from teacher:

WWW: Audio 'it is not unusual' really matches visuals. Effective use of two dance clips to compare them. Contrapuntal - very contrasting (too much?)
EBI: Ends too abruptly - smoother ending (fade to black). Balance both clips (timing)

  • The music was parallel.
  • Good use of parallel and contrapuntal sound (good use of clips).
  • The pace at the start was going exactly with the music. She went for two types of time periods of genre.
  • Parallel sound at the beginning was presented very well. Good choice of music for the contrapuntal sound.

Reflection of my own work:

WWW:
  • I believe I demonstrated both contrapuntal and parallel sounds.
  • Use two dancing clips which allows the viewer to compare them both.
  • The music for the first clip fit very well, almost as if the audio was made for the scene.
EBI:

  • The transition between the two clips have been smoother.
  • The audio for the second clip didn't fit as well, so change the audio to demonstrate contrapuntal more clearly. 
  • The quality of the two clips could have been better, and the video to fit the whole screen.

1) Learner response: compare your own video against your evaluation of the top three videos in the class. Whose did you think was best and why? How could you have improved your own video?
  • The first video that I thought was done very well is Aran's; this is because the he used lots of clips throughout his video, which demonstrated contrapuntal and parallel sounds very well. I'm comparison, I could have improved my video by also adding a variety of clips from different movies/films. 
  • The second video which I thought was made and edited well was by Shareen because similar to Aran's video, she also used a variety of clips. Also the video was well edited, which I could have edited my video a bit better by adding in a transition between clips and a smoother ending.
  • The third video which I enjoyed watching was by Kacper. This is because he took his own initiative and filmed some of his own clips for his video, but also included some clips from movies which demonstrated contrapuntal and parallel sound very well.

Editing lesson catch up (29/11/17)

Task 3 Psycho (1960) directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Discuss the dramatic change in pace achieved by the editing. Dramatic change in pace is achieved by editing because the straight cuts between each clip occurs very frequently, which creates the effect of a fast pace as the film continues. This is achieved post filming by editing because the editor alternates between different camera angles in order to present various angles of the scene. The point where the editing was the fastest in the clip was when the intruder was attempting top stab the woman in the shower, where there were fast straight cut edits between each knife stroke. The pace of the action then slowed down towards the end of the clips when the wounded woman was falling to the floor; the use of editing to slow down the scene emphasised the shock and pain she was in. Radio: The Surgery & Life Hacks

Analysis Listen to the extracts from The Surgery and Life Hacks above and answer the following questions: 1) What do the titles The Surgery and Life Hacks suggest? The surgery has intellectual suggests, and it also has connotations of digging deeper and getting to the root of a problem.  Life hacks on the other hand suggests something along the lines of helping people in situations and giving tips and tricks for life. 2) How are the programmes constructed to appeal to a youth audience? The background music is quite upbeat and youthful.
