Lighting: still image analysis

This image mainly consists of low-key lighting as the picture is made up of a contrast between shadow and light. Top lighting is used in this image because the light is coming from the top of the picture which makes the character appear more glamourous and extenuates the woman's feminine features. The use of low-key and top lighting makes the picture seem more mysterious as some parts of the image is hidden in the dark and some parts of the image have light directly on them to draw more attention it, such as the smoke. As only one side of her face is lit, this could mean that the woman has a split character in which one side is bad.

this image is also mainly made up of low-key lighting, due to half of the image being in the dark with very little light. Top lighting is used as you can clearly see that light is being directed towards her face from the top left corner of the image. The use of this lighting, similarly to the one above, makes the woman look more glamorous. However, we can only see the top half of her, leaving the rest in the dark, creating mystery for the audience.

This image uses high key lighting and back lighting as the picture is very bright, where lots of filler lights were most probably used. The use of the back light creates a shadow on his face, making it look distorted which gives the audience the impression that he is a villain.

In this image, low-key lighting and filler lights were used to create the contrast between light and dark. The top lighting the rain in the background, and the filler lights extenuate other aspects in the image such as one half of his face and the gun in his hand, which could mean that the image is trying to show that he is powerful.

This image uses lots of filler lights, however, it still depicts low-key lighting. The filler lights create a large shadow which is reflected onto the wall behind her. More filler lights were positioned pointing at her face which connotes fear and horror.

In this image, low-key lighting was used as well as the use of filler lights on one side of the couple faces which is reflected through the blinds. This creates a sense of intimacy as the lights are directly positioned towards them while kissing.

This image is low-key lighting and mainly consists of backlighting because lit in being shined from behind them into the camera which creates silhouettes of the men. The fact that we cannot see their faces due to the lighting creates a sense of mystery.

This image uses low key lighting as the image consists of shadows and brightness from the light shining onto one side of her face. No back lighting is used as the shadow is very prominent on the wall.

This image is high-key lighting and uses a lot of top lighting and filler lights to remove any shadows and to eventuate the woman's feminine features. The use of top lighting brings a lot of the light reflecting onto her face, which could show that the audience should be focusing on the features that at lit brighter than the other aspects of the image.

Very little light is used in this image, which makes it low-key lighting and very dark. However, back lighting is used to extenuate the mans figure and the knife in his hands. The light shining on the knife shows the audience that he is powerful and dangerous.

This image uses high-key lighting as lots of light is depicted in this picture with very minimal shadows due to the use of filler lights. Top lighting is also used, mainly on the woman to make her seem more glamourous. The males face is lit as brightly as the women's face, which could show that the man has darker intentions and isn't who he says he is, or he has a darker personality than what is portrayed.
