Film poster research and pre-production

Film poster conventions Do some generic research on film posters. 1) Lis t the k ey conventions of a film poster. a main central image from the original media product Film posters are a form of promotion just like a film trailer. Because a film poster is a physical piece and is not a film piece, the posters can promote the film in a lot of different places. Known places for film posters to be seen are on big billboards, bus stops, on buses, underground stations and of course, around the cinema to show future film releases. Because film posters area physical thing, there is no limit on where they can advertise films.  Icons have an important role in film posters because audiences only have the one poster for them to understand the genre of the film, which will result in them either liking the poster or ignoring it. If the story/theme and most importantly genre are not clear in the film poster, there is a risk that the film will lose out on an audience Image Film posters

Statement of intent - updated but not finished

For my film trailer, I will be producing a 90 second to a two minute trailer which will present a low budget British horror film. In terms of my narrative, the main protagonist throws a dinner party for his best right hand men and their next of kin, which shortly turns into a torture game. Included in the letter sent to the businessmen, it mentioned that they must bring their 'Next of Kin' with them to make the event more memorable. I will be communicating my genre and narrative through specific factors such as mis-en-scene, lighting, and sound. Some factors is am going to include within my trailer to meet the brief is having three locations – the room they are first taken into, the dining hall and lastly the front of the house when Mason and a couple other people escape and run away. Throughout my trailer, I will also be using diegetic and non-diegetic sound. For diegetic sound includes the voices of the characters and sounds made whilst filming, and for non-diegetic sound

Remember CLAMPS: Costume Lighting, Actors (cast, placement and movement), Make-up, Props, Setting. Costume What will your characters wear? What is the costume supposed to communicate to the audience? How does  this link to your Statement of Intent in terms of creating representations? In terms of costumes, my narrative is very business related which means most of my characters will be dressed very smartly. For example, the 5 businessmen will be dressed in suits and the women will be dresses very formally; as for the butler, they will be wearing a clean white shirt with a waist coat, a waist line apron and a bow tie. This will communicate to the audience that this is a very important and high class dinner that Mr Lateman is throwing. In terms of representations and linking to my statement of intent, this choice of costume will allow the audience to personally identify themselves with some of the characters because they may also work in a formally dressed environment.  Lighting Ho

Statement of intent *updated*

For my film trailer, I plan on making a 90 second - 2 minute trailer which will present a British low budget horror film. The narrative for the film is a multi-billionaire CEO named John Lateman who holds a dinner party and invites 5 of his best hand men within the company. Included in the letter sent to the businessmen, it mentioned that they must bring their 'Next of Kin' with them to make the event more memorable. When the businessmen arrive, they are taken into the first room where all mobile phones and electronic devices are confiscated; they are then taken into the dining room where dinner is served by the staff and they talk about business. After dinner, Mr Lateman tells his men that they are going to play a game which entails the 5 business and their next of kin to decide whether they wish to endure the pain of the torture devices being brought out, or whether they pass it to their next of kin. At the end of the game, the last business man standing becomes the new CE
